Detecting Small Leaks Before They Become Big Problems

Engines in our vehicles and machines are simply huge air compressing units.  When we turn on our engine the fuel ignites sending a wave of energy throughout the system.  This wave of energy when given some force will begin to move rods and pistons which in turn works its way down through the system allowing the wheels or other parts to move.

Over time this process may be corrupted with small holes in the system may appear causing leaks. The easiest way to detect these leaks is through a smoke test vacuum leak.  Through the vacuum leak smoke is sent through the hoses with a burst of compressed air.  If a hole is detected, then the smoke will escape through the hole indicating the source of the leak.

Just like any other part in an engine or piece of equipment a hose will eventually experience wear and tear.  Depending on the type of hose you are using it could have been damaged from heat or cold, stress, kinks or a variety of other events. 

Many hoses are made out of a hard or flexible plastic.  Other materials such as wire, various metals and more can also be a part of these hoses but in general a strong hard plastic is used.  As the plastic heats and cools stresses are placed upon it which will eventually wear out the physical structure.  Then at its weakest point a theme may burst causing the hose to leak.

To fix a leak using a piece of cloth and tying it around the area blocking the air from escaping is a quick fix, however, in many cases the need to replace the hose where the leak is found is the best bet.  For once the hoses begin to leak it is only a sign of future issues down the road.
